With more than 25 years of senior executive experience in the software industry, David Patrick joined Apperian, Inc. in 2010 as CEO.
Prior to Apperian, Patrick was president and CEO of xkoto-a cross-platform enterprise database virtualization software company. He came to xkoto from Novell, where he managed the Linux, Open Source, and Platform Services Group as vice president and general manager. In this position, he was responsible for the $450 million division that included Novell's SUSE Linux and NetWare operating systems, collaboration products, and a number of emerging open source technologies. Patrick joined Novell in 2003 as part of the acquisition of Ximian, a leading Linux and open source software company, where he was president and CEO. Before Ximian, Patrick served as president of worldwide sales and operations for the Learning Company, an $800 million consumer software company, and was responsible for the company's retail, international, direct mail, OEM, and school business units. After the Learning Company was acquired by Mattel in 1999, Patrick served as president of worldwide sales and operations of Mattel Interactive. He joined the Learning Company through the acquisition of WordStar, where he was COO. Other experience includes leading roles at the Tops networking division of Sun Microsystems, Migent International, Ashton-Tate, and Lotus.
Patrick received a bachelor of arts degree from Berklee College of Music.
