Tim Nilson, President, FPV Manuals

Tim Nilson is recognized worldwide as an industry innovator of music technologies. He is the president of FPV Manuals and was formerly a key executive in Sony Music’s initiative to market and commercialize the company’s artists via online and mobile applications, services, and storefronts. Sony Music’s artist roster includes superstars such as Michael Jackson, AC/DC, Christina Aguilera, Ke$ha, Pink, and Outkast.

Nilson was responsible for the technical strategy and operational execution of Sony Music’s consumer-facing technology assets and services, including more than 200 official artist websites. Nilson developed the company’s direct-to-consumer ecommerce platform—M2—that currently powers more than 180 online artist stores that generate sales of digital and physical products to more than 60 countries.

He developed a deep catalog of commercial products for the media and entertainment industry, including Music Box, an award-winning mobile media service distributed by Verizon Wireless, AT&T, and SprintPCS, and Run Tones, a mobile music and entertainment company subsequently sold to Sony Music in November of 2002.

Nilson has served as director of international business and product development for CDnow, the online music distribution company, and as director of technology and business development at N2K Inc. While at N2K Inc., Nilson was instrumental in developing groundbreaking products, including digital downloads and music webcasts for high-profile artists and ensembles such as David Bowie and the Philadelphia Orchestra.

Nilson received a B.M. in music business/management from Berklee College of Music. In 2010, Nilson was awarded Berklee’s Distinguished Alumni Award for his many contributions to the digital music industry.
