Eduardo "Teddy" Bautista Garcia
Original Appointment: March 2006
Eduardo Bautista Garcia is chair of the Board of Directors of the Sociedad General de Autores y Editores (SGAE), president of the Academia de las Artes y Ciencias de la Musica, president of the Sociedad Digital de Autores y Editores (sDae), director general of the Fundacion Autor, vice president of the European Grouping of Societies of Authors and Composers (GESAC), vice president of Latinautor, and president of the Spanish Coalition for Cultural Diversity. He is also member of CISAC's board of directors and a member of LARAS's board of trustees. Garcia (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, 1943) played a significant role in the music of the '60s and '70s in Spain.
Garcia joined the Board of Directors of the Sociedad General de Autores y Editores first as vice president
and managing director in 1983, and later as chair. The 24 million euros distributed among the SGAE
members in 1983 grew to 300 million in 2004. Also, the administration fee for applying for SGAE
membership, which was over 30 percent in 1983, decreased to 15 percent in 2001 (one of the lowest
fees worldwide).
Eduardo Bautista Garcia has led SGAE through a silent and sustained revolution, introducing deep
changes in the society's organizational structure. This process has culminated in the appointment of
outstanding professionals to join the executive team that has enabled continued technological investment.
As a result, SGAE has become one of the most outstanding author-rights managing entities in the world.
