Boston has a tremendous amount to offer anyone looking for sporting events, culture, entertainment (films, books, music) and recreation.

Sporting Events
There are the obvious: Celtics and Bruins games at the Fleet Center; Red Sox games at one of America's great ballfields, Fenway Park; and Patriots games at Foxboro Stadium, but with more colleges and universities per capita than any other American city, Boston is also a great place to catch college sports. Attend games at Boston College, Northeastern University, Boston University and Harvard - all within easy commutes from Berklee.

Culture
Whether you're into fine art, classical music, theater or ballet, Boston's got what you like. Go to Symphony Hall, just down the street from Berklee, to hear the Boston Pops and Boston Symphony Orchestra, head over to the Wang Center for a Broadway show or see the Boston Ballet, and walk in just about any direction and you're sure to hit a museum — there's the Museum of Fine Arts, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Musuem, the Institute of Contemporary Art, the Boston Center for the Arts, and the Museum of Science, just to name a few.

Entertainment
Boston is a huge film town with independent and mainstream movies available all around the city at chains like Sony Theaters, Loews, General Cinema and National Amusement, and independent theaters like the one and only Coolidge Corner Theater and Kendall Square Cinema. You'll also find classic films playing at revival houses like the Brattle and the Harvard Film Archive. Plus, you can even catch discount films at the Somerville Theatre and free films at the Boston Public Library just down the street from Berklee.

If you're something of a bookworm, or even if you've only got one or two favorite authors, Boston is a literary city. With many writers living in the area, and several major publishing houses in town, there's always someone interesting reading or giving a lecture in one of the city's many bookstores and libraries. Some of the best places to catch your favorite scribe include the Boston Public Library, Waterstone's Bookstore, the Harvard Bookstore, Brookline Booksmith, Borders Books, and Barnes and Noble. Plus, for those on a budget, there's any number of used and discount book stores throughout town.

And, for those of you who can't Get enough music, you will feel comfortable around Boston. Catch an outdoor performance at Great Woods, the Hatch Shell, or even Foxboro Stadium. Indoor venues include the Orpheum Theater, Harvard's Sanders Theater, the Paradise, Axis, Avalon, and the Berklee Performance Center. There's also any number of clubs, like Aerosmith's Mama Kin, the House of Blues, Harpers Ferry, the Tam, the Regattabar and Scullers, just to name a very few, which cater to both headliners and local bands.

Recreation
So, you're into inline skating, biking, boating, hiking, canoeing, skiing, ice skating, kayaking or just lazing in the shade or sun. No problem. You can rent inline skates from City Sports, just across the street from Berklee, and a few more blocks away you will find one of the loveliest strips of grass, trees, benches, and trails running along the Charles River to skate, bike, jog, stroll, or just relax along. The Esplanade is also home to the Hatch Shell, which hosts the Boston Pops on July 4th and a number of other musical groups and events throughout the spring, summer, and fall - there's even movie night on Fridays during the summertime.

Less than an hour from Boston, you'll find mountains for downhill and cross country skiing, hiking, and mountain and rock climbing; lakes and rivers for canoeing, kayaking, and swimming; and even beaches for strolling, sunning, surfing, and swimming. Many of the areas sporting goods outfitters, such as EMS and REI coordinate outings at little or no charge for various outdoor activities. You can also join the Appalachian Mountain Club and/or the Boston Sports Club for discounted rates on the various outdoor programs they offer.

Via commuter rail, Amtrak, or bus you can reach the shores of Cape Cod, the White Mountains of New Hampshire, the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts and any number of beautiful locales in New England.
