Scholarships
Berklee offers a limited number of scholarships to the Five-Week Program. The application for scholarship is included in the online application to the Five-Week Program. Students seeking financial assistance must apply to the program online at berklee.edu/summer, and will be required to provide three examples of their performance abilities by submitting links to web postings (YouTube, myspace, etc.) and a short essay highlighting their musical and academic achievements. Scholarship awards range from $500 to full tuition (housing not included).

The deadline to apply for scholarship consideration to the Five-Week Program is March 1. Scholarship decisions will be issued by April 15. The scholarship selection committee will award music students who are most likely to benefit from the program based on the their demonstrated talent and potential, with preference given to students enrolled in high school or secondary school. There is no federal aid available for this program.

All program participants will have the opportunity to sign up for a live audition during the program for scholarship consideration towards Berklee's full-time program or next year's Five-Week Program.

D'Addario, Monterey International Pop Festival Foundation
The D'Addario Foundation for the Performing Arts and the Monterey International Pop Festival Foundation for Music have generously agreed to donate a limited number of scholarships to help some of our most deserving students. These awards will be chosen from our overall pool of scholarship requests. Recipients will be notified by April 15.

Summer Jazz Workshop
The Summer Jazz Workshop is a high-level workshop that operates within Berklee's Five-Week Summer Performance Program. It includes a full scholarship, covering tuition, room and board, and all related fees, for some of the most talented jazz students in the world.

This workshop is led by artistic director Terri Lyne Carrington, who has performed with such notables as George Duke, Herbie Hancock, Dianne Reeves, and Wayne Shorter, and gives some of our most talented students an opportunity to gain valuable insight into the jazz idiom. The curriculum focuses on ensemble and performance skills, development of harmonic vocabulary, and a historical perspective on mainstream and contemporary jazz.

The application for the Summer Jazz Workshop is part of the online application to the Five-Week Program. When completing the online application, candidates should select the option for the Summer Jazz Workshop. They will be required to submit links to web postings of their performances (YouTube, MySpace, etc.) by February 1. We recommend that the web posting include an up-tempo song with a swing feel; an odd-meter piece with an even eighth-note feel; and a medium-tempo swing feel tune (MM between 110 and 130). Each example should be about 3 minutes in length and be performed with a band (as opposed to a solo performance). Students are also required to complete a short essay highlighting their musical and academic achievements and how the program will help them achieve their musical goals. Students selected for the Summer Jazz Workshop will be contacted directly and invited to participate by March 15. Students are required to confirm their acceptance into the program by April 1. Candidates who are not chosen for the workshop will automatically be considered for scholarship towards the Five-Week Program and will receive a decision by April 15.

Summer Rock Workshop

The Summer Rock Workshop is a high-level workshop that operates within Berklee's Five-Week Summer Performance Program. It includes a full scholarship, including tuition, room and board, and all related fees, for some of the most talented rock students in the world.

This workshop is led by artistic director T Lavitz, who has worked with such notables as Billy Cobham, Dixie Dregs, and Scott Henderson, and provides some of our most talented students an opportunity to expand their skills in the rock idiom. The curriculum focuses on ensemble and performance skills, stylistic vocabulary, and a historical perspective on contemporary rock.

The application for the Summer Rock Workshop is part of the online application to the Five-Week Program. When completing the online application, candidates should select the option for the Summer Rock Workshop. They will be required to submit links to web postings of their performances (YouTube, MySpace, etc.) by February 1. We recommend that the web posting include a mixed-meter piece and two other pieces that demonstrate as much stylistic variety as possible (rock, funk, swing, Latin, etc.). Students are also required to complete a short essay highlighting their musical and academic achievements and how the program will help them achieve their musical goals. Students selected for the Summer Rock Workshop will be contacted directly and invited to participate by March 15. Students are required to confirm their acceptance into the program by April 1. Candidates who are not chosen for the workshop will automatically be considered for scholarship towards the Five-Week Program and will receive a decision by April 15.

Berklee's Summer Performance Program is made possible in part by scholarship funding from The D'Addario Music Foundation, The American Turkish Society, and The Center for Arts Natick:
