The Inauguration and Installation of Berklee's Third President

Berklee will inaugurate its third-ever president, Roger H. Brown, on Friday, December 3, 2004.

The inauguration week, leading up to Friday's installation of the new president, will feature a variety of opportunities for the Berklee community to honor our past, celebrate our present, and usher in our future. Concerts ranging from jazz to gospel and a series of faculty panel discusssions are on tap, beginning on Monday, November 29. It will all culminate on Friday with the inauguration ceremony and concert.

You can expect to see dignitaries from the Berkee community and beyond. At the inauguration ceremony, special guest James Taylor will perform and vocalist Chaka Khan and drummer Dennis Chambers will receive honorary doctor of music degrees.

All events are open to the public, and take place at the Berklee Performance Center, 136 Mass Ave., or the David Friend Recital Hall, 921 Boylston Street.   1:00 p.m. The Anatomy of a Score: Conception to Completion

A presentation by Don Wilkins, chair of the Film Scoring Department, will examine the scoring of his Emmy-nominated A City in Bloom, a virtual reality tour of the Rose Kennedy Greenway above the Big Dig.

8:15 p.m. Reverence Gospel Choir and Overjoyed

Hallelujah! Amen! An Evening of Gospel Music. Dennis Montgomery III directs the Berklee Reverence Gospel Ensemble and OverJoyed. This concert will feature both ensembles performing songs from various artists in traditional and contemporary gospel styles.

  1:00 p.m. Instantaneous Community: Composing the Moment

A round-robin improvisation presented by Joanne Brackeen, Bruce Gertz, Gabrielle Goodman, Kimberly Khare, and Louis Stewart.

David Friend Recital Hall. Free.



  8:15 p.m. Rainbow Jazz Band

This concert will showcase many of the college's top instrumentalists, composers, and arrangers performing jazz in a large ensemble with vocals under the direction of faculty trombonist, composer, arranger Phil Wilson.

  1:00 p.m. Beyond the Music: Educating the Whole Person

Panel discussion presented by faculty from the General Education Department, among others.

David Friend Recital Hall. Free.



  8:15 p.m. It's All About the Music

Berklee student ensembles perform a range of styles, including Afro-Cuban, jazz, bluegrass, and hip-hop.

Thursday, December 2, 2004



  1:00 p.m. Berklee and the Future of Music

Panel discussion with faculty from several departments, including Music Education, Music Business and Management, Music Production and Engineering, and Electronic Production and Design.

  2:00 p.m. Inauguration of Roger H. Brown

A reception for all invited guests will immediately follow the ceremony.
