To the Berklee Community

I regret not being on campus today for the historic introduction of Berklee's next president. I am the recipient of a President's Merit Award from the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, as part of the Grammy activities, which I will proudly be accepting here in Los Angeles on behalf of all of our shared achievements in making Berklee such a groundbreaking college.

I want to offer my congratulations and best wishes to Roger Brown, who will begin his duties sometime after my retirement in June. I will personally do everything that I can to make his transition as effective as possible and provide him with whatever information and support he might seek thereafter.

Berklee has a special culture that sets us apart even in the family of music colleges. I welcome everyone's collaboration to join with me in helping Roger get off to the best possible start.

Although I have not been part of the presidential search process, I'm happy to say that I have met with Roger in an advisory capacity, at the board's request, and heard his recent campus presentation as well. I look forward to returning to campus to share in the excitement and anticipation of him becoming Berklee's third president!

Sincerely,

Lee Eliot Berk
President
