Congratulations on your student's acceptance to Berklee College of Music. I am pleased to welcome you and all the parents of our incoming students. The transition to college life is different for everyone. Each student comes to us with a different set of skills to navigate their first year, and here at Berklee we understand that and are ready to support your students and their needs. We also realize that as parents you will have concerns from time to time, and so we provide you with information and resources to assist them along their journey.
To start you off as a Berklee parent, our Parent Handbook is a great way to acclimate yourself to the college. It is written by a parent for parents, and really taps into the information that is most relevant to you. I would encourage you to review it and familiarize yourself with the resources included. Frequently asked questions, tips for supporting your son or daughter, networking—these are just some of the topics touched on in the Parent Handbook.
I invite you to join me at the Parent Orientation Meeting on Orientation Day, Monday, September 3, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. in the Berklee Performance Center located at 136 Massachusetts Avenue. Immediately following the meeting we will host a breakfast reception in the cafeteria located at 150 Massachusetts Avenue. The morning of Orientation Day, your student will be picking up a schedule, attending various student-related meetings, and participating in peer advising sessions, so he/she will be busy while we meet separately. This meeting is just for you and is your chance to connect with representatives from various departments at the college and ask any questions you might have. In the days leading up to Orientation Day, your student can expect to receive more information from the college.
The college's annual Family Weekend is slated for Friday, October 5 and Saturday, October 6, 2007. This is the weekend traditionally when all the parents and families of our students come on campus for fun activities. Please visit our Family Weekend page to sign up online and view our event calendar. It's always a fabulous time for the families of our students to visit. You'll have the chance to meet other parents and families from all over the globe.
We also have an active Berklee Parents' Association that helps plan our spring parent events and meetings. If you have questions or concerns throughout the year, I invite you to contact the Parent Office, Suite 500 of the Uchida Building, at 617 747-2231.
Welcome to the Berklee family, I look forward to seeing you soon and send my very best wishes to you for a satisfying Berklee experience.
Respectfully,

Angela F. F. Davis
