Berklee City Music Students Perform Tribute To Classic Rock Aerosmith At Classic Boston Jeweler Shreve, Crump & Low, November 29

BOSTON, MA, December 5, 2005 — The Berklee City Music Allstar Band, made up of 14 local youth who are studying at Berklee on scholarships awarded to underserved inner-city talent, performed a tribute to Boston’s classic rock band Aerosmith at the gala opening for the new location of a classic Boston jewelry store, Shreve, Crump & Low.  Shreve owners Ann and Kim Birks, in honor of the performance, made a $5,000.00 gift to the Berklee City Music Scholarship Fund.

The City Music Allstars, under the direction of professor Winston Maccow, performed Aerosmith classics “Janie’s Got a Gun,” Cryin’,” and “Don’t Want to Miss a Thing.”  Aerosmith bassist Tom Hamilton, who attended the opening, joined the group for its cover of “Walk This Way.”  The audience, already mesmerized by the stellar musicianship of the students, was rocked.  The Allstars also performed songs by Chaka Khan and Earth, Wind & Fire.

Berklee City Music provides underserved, inner-city high school students from the Boston area after-school mentoring, Saturday schooling, summer study, and full-tuition scholarships to Berklee at no cost to them or their families.
