Berklee Alumni Alf Clausen, Matthias Gohl, David Van Slyke, and Skye Lewin Nominated for Five Primetime Emmy Awards

BOSTON, September 9, 2005 — Berklee College of Music alumni Alf Clausen, Matthias Gohl, David Van Slyke, and Skye Lewis have been nominated for a total of five 2005 Primetime Emmy Awards. The nominations include two for Simpsons composer Clausen, marking his 27th Emmy nomination. There are also two nominations in one category: Van Slyke and Lewin for Outstanding Sound Editing for a Series. The 57th Annual Creative Arts Emmy Awards will be presented at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 11. The ceremony, hosted by comedian George Lopez, will be broadcast Saturday, September 17, at 7:00 p.m., on E! Entertainment Television.

Alf Clausen, who leads one of the last remaining live orchestras on television, is nominated in two categories: Outstanding Music Composition For A Series (Dramatic Underscore), The Simpsons, "Treehouse Of Horror XV;" and Outstanding Music And Lyrics, The Simpsons, "A Star Is Torn," for the song "Always My Dad," lyrics by Carolyn Omine. Clausen has been the composer for several television series, including Moonlighting, for which he received six Emmy nominations; The Simpsons, for which he has received two Emmy awards and 18 additional Emmy nominations; ALF; and The Critic. His feature film credits include Half-Baked, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Splash, and Weird Science. Clausen, Berklee class of '66, studied arranging and composition at Berklee and has also been an instructor at the College.

Matthias Gohl, class of '81, is nominated in the category Outstanding Music Direction, for his work as music supervisor on Broadway: The American Musical, Oh What a Beautiful Morning. Gohl, with his partner Elliot Goldenthal, has composed scores for a number of feature films, including Michael Collins, Batman Forever, and Interview with a Vampire, for which he received an Academy Award nomination. Gohl also wrote the score and was music director for the documentaries The West, and Out of the Past.

David Van Slyke is nominated in the category Outstanding Sound Editing for a Series, for his work on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, "Down The Drain." He has previously won an Emmy Award as Sound Designer for CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. Van Slyke, class of '82, owns the boutique sound design company Slick Sounds that also works on post-production sound for commercials, video games, and feature films.

Skye Lewin, class of '02, is also nominated in the category Outstanding Sound Editing for a Series, for his work on CSI: Miami, "Lost Son." He has also worked as a sound editor for the TV shows Entourage, and North Shore.
