BOSTON, June 7, 2005 The annual Berklee College of Music Percussion Festival, June 27- July 1, includes a number of public concerts with Latin, hip-hop, jazz, World, and funk music, many of them featuring some of the world's most innovative drummers. This unique series of concerts is part of an annual week for drummers, vibists, and percussionists of all ages to learn and perform Afro-Cuban, Brazilian, West African, fusion, funk, jazz, and rock drumming styles. Music is taught and performed by Berklee faculty and guest clinicians and performers from around the globe.
Public concerts take place at the Berklee Performance Center, located at 136 Massachusetts Ave.; and the David Friend Recital Hall, at 921 Boylston St., Boston. Call the Berklee Performance Center box office, 617-747-2261, for more information.

Funk, rock, and r&b master Blackwell is known all over the world as a member of Prince's New Power Generation. He also leads his own group, the Matrix, and is touring Japan this summer with Candy Dulfer.
Eguie Castrillo Group, David Friend Recital Hall, 2:30 p.m., Free.
Faculty member Castrillo plays the timbales in a style reminiscent of Tito Puente, and his lively Latin style moves people from their seats to the aisles for dancing. He has also played with Arturo Sandoval, Shelia E., and Ruben Blades.

The Berklee faculty member, vibraphonist, and composer Mendoza is considered by critics and fans around the world to be one of today's finest Latin jazz artists, and his career is highlighted by performances and recordings with his own group and with such artists as Danilo Pérez, Michel Camilo, Claudio Roditi, Giovanni Hidalgo, and Antonio Sánchez.

A night of percussive jazz with Ralph Peterson's Fo'tet; and Yoron Israel, Berklee Performance Center, 8:15 p.m., $5.00.
Peterson has performed with Art Blakey, Betty Carter, and Michael Brecker, and with his own group, the innovative Fo'tet, he has just released a new CD, Fo'tet Augmented.
Berklee Percussion Department Assistant Chair and music business entrepreneur Israel has performed with Sonny Rollins, Roy Hargrove, and Joshua Redman, and with his own group he has released four albums.
Tuesday, June 28:
Rhythmusa with Dave Samuels; and Mike Ringquist's Latin Band featuring Flamenco artist Nan Mercader, Berklee Performance Center, 8:15 p.m., $5.00.
The female trio Rhythmusa uses vibes, the marimba, a drumset, and other percussion instruments to create a sound inspired by melodies of the Orient and the rhythms of Africa and South America. Faculty member Samuels won a 2003 Grammy Award for Best Latin Jazz Recording with his group the Caribbean Jazz Project, and he has played vibes with Frank Zappa, Chet Baker, and Spyro Gyra.
Wednesday, June 29:
Latin Night with Mark Walker, Ernesto Diaz, Horacio "El Negro" Hernandez, Giovanni Hidalgo, Berklee Performance Center, 8:15 p.m., $5.00.
Among the stellar lineup of talent is Puerto Rico native Hidalgo, one of the world's greatest congueros who combines Latin and jazz sounds to create his own inimitable style. He has performed with Carlos Santana, Dizzy Gillespie, Tito Puente, and Mickey Hart's Planet Drum, among many others.

Alessandra Belloni and Sergio Bellotti; and Trichy Sankaran, Berklee Performance Center, 8:15 p.m., $5.00.
Belloni is the only women in the U.S. and Italy who specializes in Southern Italian percussion, and with Bellotti, she will perform Italian and other World music styles. Sankaran is India's most noted percussionist and a world-renowned musician who has played in Gamelan, jazz, electronic, and African music ensembles.

Berklee Percussion Faculty Blowout Concert directed by Dave Samuels, Berklee Performance Center, 7:30 p.m., $5.00. All styles of music.
