Berklee College of Music Offers Its First Summer Gospel Workshop July 29-31

Weekend Concerts Feature Tramaine Hawkins, Dennis Montgomery III, Jetro da Silva

BOSTON, May 18, 2005 — Students come from around the country and the world each summer to study at Berklee's renowned summer workshops, which include instruction in percussion, bass, guitar, brass, songwriting, music business, and music production, among other disciplines. This summer the Berklee Gospel Workshop is being added to the offerings. Participants will study gospel styles and technique for voice, piano, keyboard, and organ. The intensive three-day program will help choir members and instrumentalists develop repertoire, performance, and conducting skills in the genre.

Although the tradition of gospel pedagogy for musicians and choir members dates back about 200 years, it is only recently that advances have been made in the teaching of gospel music. The Berklee Gospel Workshop is designed to give musicians a solid foundation in gospel music. Conducted by Berklee's internationally acclaimed faculty and industry professionals, the workshop will give students the opportunity to work with some of today's finest gospel musicians. For information on signing up for the Berklee Gospel Workshop, please visit the Summer Programs section of the website.
