April 8 Yellowjackets Songbook featuring Russell Ferrante
Song's Nothing Conservatory About It series, highly successful in its first year with concerts by Michel Camilo, Pat Metheny and Gary Burton, continues to explore the expressive possibilities of popular song and the rich stylistic diversity that defines music at Berklee today. It is a concert series as inclusive and diverse as Berklee itself. It is also something entirely new, featuring original compositions and fresh arrangements by Berklee musicians and special friends of the college.
This unique concert series pairs masters of contemporary music, such as Eguie Castrillo and Greg Hopkins, with trendsetting stylists of tomorrow - Berklee students who are proving their skills and star power on the same stage where Diana Krall, Steve Vai, Branford Marsalis, Aimee Mann, Roy Hargrove, Susan Tedeschi, and Gillian Welch got their starts. The opportunities to hear Berklee's best and brightest play with seasoned professionals make the Song's Nothing Conservatory About It concert series an intriguing entry on the Boston concert scene.
The series also features the formidable talents of Berklee's faculty, not only the world's most accomplished contemporary music educators, but outstanding performers in their own right. They have led ensembles on worldwide tours, arranged tunes for pop superstars, performed and recorded as sidemen with acclaimed artists, and won Grammys for their efforts. But they haven't just played with the best in the business; they are the best in the business.
Berklee College of Music was founded on the revolutionary principle that the best way to prepare students for careers in music was through the study and practice of contemporary music. For over half a century, the college has evolved constantly to reflect the state of the art of music and the music business. With over a dozen performance and nonperformance majors, a diverse and talented student body representing 70 plus countries, and a music industry "who's who" of alumni, Berklee is the world's premier learning lab for the music of today and tomorrow.
