BOSTON, November 27, 2001 -- The Berklee Rainbow Band, one of the college's premier student big bands, will present a concert on Tuesday, December 11, 2001, to benefit the Phil Wilson Scholarship Fund.

Under the direction of Professor Wilson, the band will feature vocalist Alisa Miles and trumpeter/vocalist Christine Fawson, as well as Argentine composer Nicolas Sorin.

The Dec. 11th event is at 8:15 p.m. at the wheelchair-accessible Berklee Performance Center, 136 Massachusetts Avenue, in Boston. Tickets are $5.00 -- $2.00 for seniors -- and are available at the BPC box office, 617-747-2261.

Some of the Berklee alumni who were Rainbow Band members over the past 35 years include Roy Hargrove, Cyrus Chestnut, John Scofield, Ernie Watts, Terri Lyne Carrington, and Bill Pierce.

Five years ago, Phil Wilson established the scholarship in his name to provide opportunities for some of the band's extraordinary performers.

Comprised of students from many countries, the Rainbow Band has been invited to perform in Long Beach, CA in January 2002 at the International Association of Jazz Educators' annual conference, which attracts over 8,000 musicians and educators from around the world every year.
