REKOOPERATORS CONCERT RAISES MONEY FOR AL KOOPER'S "IT CAN HAPPEN" SCHOLARSHIP FUND AT BERKLEE

BOSTON, November 23, 1998 -- Faculty member/rocker Al Kooper headed up a star-filled event, performing in the first of his annual "Super Session" concerts on November 7 at Berklee College of Music.

Accompanied by his band, The Rekooperators, Al Kooper kept the audience of over 900 in the Berklee Performance Center screaming for more as he rolled out fresh new compositions amidst soulful renditions of tunes like "I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know," melodies for which he has become famous over the last four decades of performing. The Rekooperators include Jimmy Vivino on guitar, Mike Merritt on bass (both of "Late Night With Conan O'Brien"), and Anton Fig on drums (of "The Late Show With David Letterman").

Grammy-winning vibraphonist Gary Burton and ace session pianist Paul Griffin (who played alongside Al Kooper on Bob Dylan's "Highway 61 Revisited" and "Blonde On Blonde") joined The Rekooperators onstage, as well as special surprise guests the Berklee Reverence Gospel Ensemble, led by Dennis Montgomery III. Proceeds of the concert will go to Al Kooper's "It Can Happen" scholarship fund, providing adaptive technology for physically challenged Berklee students. "Super Session '98" was recorded for future release, using the college's own studios.

Founded in 1945, Berklee College of Music has been advancing careers in contemporary music for more than 50 years.
