PODCAST: Guinga

Listen to a tune from one of Brazil's most acclaimed composers and guitarists.

December 5, 2013

Carlos Althier de Souza Lemos Escobar—known as Guinga—began his musical studies at the age of 13, wrote his first composition at 16, and began recording his work in the early 1970s. The Brazilian guitarist is now viewed as one of his country's most important working composers.

On December 12, 2013, Guinga will perform several of his original songs with the Berklee Contemporary Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Francisco Noya, assistant professor of composition. The concert will feature a number of faculty guest soloists, student vocalists and percussionists, and new arrangements written by students and faculty. Matthew Nicholl, chair of Contemporary Writing and Production, will be the concert's musical director.
