July 19, 2013

On Thursdays through September 5, Berklee College of Music brings free after work entertainment to Kendall Square’s Cambridge Center Plaza. Jazz percussionist Fabio Rojas, majoring in film scoring/performance, will perform on Thursday, July 25, at 5:00 p.m, with recent Berklee graduate’s Daniel Rotem on tenor saxophone and bassist Osmar Okuma. Rojas has performed at a variety of venues and events across Boston including Boston Symphony Hall, TEDxBoston, the Berklee Middle Eastern Festival, and the Charles River Esplanade. The free concert is part of the Kendall After 5 series, part of Berklee Summer in the City, presented by Natixis Global Asset Management.

Hailing from Valencia, Venezuela, Rojas began his musical studies with drums at 13, and then studied orchestral percussion at Colegio Emil Friedman in Caracas and jazz drums at the Universidad Nacional Experimental de las Artes. By 19, he was playing with the most acclaimed and recognized jazz musicians in Venezuela, such as Pablo Gil, Diego Alvarez, and Gonzalo Mico. In 2009, he began playing with internationally recognized musicians such as Bruce Gertz, Alex Brown, Marcus Santos, Gilles Grivolla and Oscar Stagnaro. He received a scholarship to attend Berklee.
