This year marks bossa nova's 50th anniversary, and Berklee is celebrating the occasion with a series of concerts featuring bossa nova legends. In May, "Queen of Bossa Nova" Rosa Passos was awarded an honorary doctorate and gave a performance at Berklee's commencement concert. This month Cesar Camargo Mariano and Oscar Castro-Neves visit the college for concerts and jam sessions that showcase the style. The Latin focus continues into November, with "Queen of Lando" Eva Ayllón's Sovereign Bank Music Series concert.

October brings many great female performers to campus for the Women in Rock concert. The show will be filmed for a documentary on African American women in rock and will feature the supergroup of drummer Terri Lyne Carrington, bassist Meshell Ndegeocello, and guitarist Felicia Collins of the Late Show with David Letterman, as well as Nona Hendryx, Siedah Garrett, Joyce Kennedy, and Cindy Blackman. Berklee student Shea Rose will open the concert. Check out her song "Free Love" in this month's podcast.
