As the summer winds to a close, Berklee students, faculty, and alumni are busier than ever, with a slew of shows all over the city. Stop by the Berklee Performance Center for one of the Five-Week Performance Program's final concerts or head over to Government Center for Peace Boston's Hip-Hop Festival. Check out the Jazz at the Fort concert this weekend, a Kendall Square lunchtime show, or one of Berklee's many other free outdoor summer concerts. With such a variety of styles, there's something for everyone.

Free Summer Shows

All summer long, Berklee students and alumni present free live music in Boston and beyond.

  The Zach Hillyard Band   Kendall Square Concert Series and Harborwalk Sounds

All shows are on Thursdays, 12:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. at Kendall Square, 300 Athenaeum Street, Cambridge, MA; and 6:00 p.m.-8:30 p.m., at the Institute of Contemporary Art, 100 Northern Avenue, Boston, MA.

Roxbury Film Festival, August 1

For the first time in the festival's 10-year history, they'll team with Berklee to bring films of social import with music mantras to Boston. 5:30 p.m., 8:30 p.m., David Friend Recital Hall. Read more...

Five-Week Performing Songwriter Showcase, August 6

Joe Stump, August 7

Berklee faculty guitarist and speed metal virtuoso Joe Stump performs neo-classical speed metal, European power metal, and retro hard rock tracks from his various recordings, live with his band. 8:15 p.m., Berklee Performance Center.

Comcast San Jose Jazz Festival, August 9

Juan Chavez y Arco Kemao ("burnt bow") bring their salsa with strings performance to the Latin Jazz Stage for the Comcast San Jose Jazz Festival. 11:00 a.m., San Jose. Read more...

City Music Blowout, August 12

A culminating event at the end of the Five-Week Summer Performance Program, with City Music SYSTEM 5 Scholarships awarded to select students. Music will range from gospel to jazz to rhythm and blues. 7:30 p.m., Berklee Performance Center.

Five-Week Summer Performance Program Blowout, August 13

This concert will feature some of the program's best ensembles performing in a wide range of musical styles ranging from small groups to big bands. 8:15 p.m., Berklee Performance Center.

Sounds of Berklee Podcast

This month, listen to "Wade in the Water," a spiritual turned into finger-popping swing by Kendrick Oliver and his 19-piece New Life Jazz Orchestra. The track features Christian McBride on bass. Oliver and New Life will perform on Sunday, August 3, in a free outdoor concert in Boston's Roxbury neighborhood.
