As the summer heats up, Berklee students and alumni take their music outdoors, with a free summer concert series that reaches beyond Boston's borders. Check our events calendar to find a concert near you.

Commencement 2008 was full of surprises, including impromptu performances by honorary doctorate recipients Philip Bailey, Steve Winwood, Rosa Passos, and Howard Shore. Read on to find out more about these performances—and to watch them. Also, hear what Steve Winwood had to share at a surprise clinic prior to commencement.

Berklee focuses not only on current students, but on building the future, as well. Speaking of scholarships, this month brings the launch of the new Africa Scholars Program, to bring students from that continent to Berklee on a full ride. Closer to home, three Memphis teens were recently awarded scholarships to Berklee's Five-Week Summer Performance Program as part of a new partnership with Stax Music Academy. Read on to find out more.
