If you're heading to Berklee, thinking about applying, or just have a passion for music, you now have a great way of making sure that you're solid on all of the fundamentals. Developing Your Musicianship, a new massive open online course (MOOC) offered by Berklee and Coursera, will introduce you to key concepts and approaches you'll need to understand, create, and perform contemporary music. Taught by Berklee professor George W. Russell Jr., the course includes six lessons that delve into harmony and ear training—two areas of intensive focus for every entering Berklee student.

"The power of this course for people who are coming to Berklee but lack some of that theoretical training, is that they can take this six-week free course, go at their own pace, work at whatever piece is difficult for them, and arrive better prepared," says Roger H. Brown, president of Berklee.

The course launches on April 1, 2014.
