Juan Luis Guerra, Tommy Torres, Gustavo Borner Win Latin Grammys

Juan Luis Guerra ‘83 led the pack of nominees heading into the 13th annual Latin Grammy Awards, held November 15 in Las Vegas. Guerra had six nominations in a variety of categories. He won two golden gramophones, for Album of the Year and Producer of the Year, for his production skills on MTV Unplugged, recorded by multi-Latin Grammy Award winning Columbian rock musician Juanes. Gustavo Borner ’89 also received a Latin Grammy Award for engineering Juanes’ MTV Unplugged. These wins bring Guerra’s Latin Grammy count to 14 awards, and Borner’s to 10.
Tommy Torres '93 took home his third Latin Grammy Award, this one for Song of the Year. Torres penned the track “Corre!” for Jesse & Joy, a brother and sister pop rock duo from Mexico City. “Corre!” appears on their album ¿Con Quién Se Queda El Perro?
Alumni Ben Wisch ’76, Benny Faccone ’78, Matt Rollings ’86, Miguel Zenon ’98, and Sebastian De Peyrecave ’04 were also nominated this year for Latin Grammy Awards.
Since the Latin Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences founded the awards in 2000, Berklee alumni and professors have received 59 Latin Grammy Awards. Berklee alumni and faculty have also received a total of 222 Grammy Awards.
