Free Summer Jazz Concerts on Spectacle Island

From July to September, up-and-coming Berklee musicians will perform free concerts at Berklee Jazz on Spectacle Island, a part of Berklee Summer in the City, presented by Natixis Global Asset Management.

From July to September, up-and-coming Berklee musicians will perform free concerts at Berklee Jazz on Spectacle Island, a part of Berklee Summer in the City, presented by Natixis Global Asset Management. The Boston Harbor Alliance and the Boston Harbor National Park host the performances every other Sunday at 1:00 p.m., from July 6 through August 31, weather permitting. Berklee Jazz on Spectacle Island is accessible by ferry from Boston's Long Wharf, next to Christopher Columbus Park (MBTA Blue Line to Aquarium Station). On performance dates, ferries depart Long Wharf North on the half hour between 9:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Ferry tickets can be purchased at the Boston Harbor Islands Pavilion on the Rose Kennedy Greenway, across from the Long Wharf Marriott. July 6 - 3 Sudacas 

3 Sudacas, a trio featuring bassist Esther Rojas, guitarist Eduardo Mercuri, and vocalist/percussionist Marianella Rojas, fuse the music of Colombia, Brazil, and Venezuela with jazz, pop, and other genres. 

 

July 20 - Elena Bonomo Trio 

Elena Bonomo Trio, comprised of drummer Elena Bonomo, bassist Alex Dyring, and pianist Zerlina Devi, put a fresh spin on tunes from the Great American Songbook, drawing influences from fusion, hip-hop, and R&B. 

 

August 3 - Brian Plautz 

Brian Plautz is a saxophonist and composer with a modern and accessible sound. A native of the Cleveland area, his influences range from gospel to classical to jazz. Under the direction of Liza Grossman, he has performed or recorded with Jon Anderson (Yes), Valerie Naranjo (Saturday Night Live band), and Donnie Iris (Wild Cherry). 

 

August 17 - Oliver Monaco Group 

Jazz guitarist, composer, and bandleader Oliver Monaco was born in Minnesota and raised in the Boston area. A regular performer at the iconic Back Bay jazz club Wally's Cafe, he has a fluid style and a comprehensive approach to melody, rhythm, and texture. 

 

August 31 - Grant Richards Trio 

Oregon-born pianist and composer Grant Richards had already won four Down Beat Student Music Awards before he enrolled at Berklee in 2009. A recipient of the college's prestigious Jimmy Lyons Scholarship, Richards has performed with Esperanza Spalding, Eddie Gomez, and Terri Lyne Carrington, among others.
