Berklee College of Music built its reputation on educating Grammy-winning jazz heavyweights. But this year, the school’s guitar wizards and star pianists are being overshadowed by alums behind pop blockbusters up for Grammys by Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Bruno Mars, Kanye West and Rihanna. “The Berklee name has become so prestigious in the pop music business,” Makeba Riddick (class of ’99) said. “It’s like saying you went to Harvard in our industry.”
