Berklee's Signature Music Series 2013-2014 Presents Alejandro Sanz, Guinga, a Tribute to Art Blakey, and the Berklee Singers Showcase 30th Anniversary

The Signature Music Series at Berklee presents a season of Spanish pop, Brazilian fusion, jazz, and vocal performances by a cross-section of Berklee students, faculty, and alumni as well as world-class musicians including Spanish pop star Alejandro Sanz, who will receive an honorary doctorate from Berklee during his November 6 concert.

The Signature Music Series at Berklee presents a season of Spanish pop, Brazilian fusion, jazz, and vocal performances by a cross-section of Berklee students, faculty, and alumni as well as world-class musicians including Spanish pop star Alejandro Sanz, who will receive an honorary doctorate from Berklee during his November 6 concert. The fall 2013 half of the series also features Celebrating Blakey: A Jazz Messenger Reunion (October 10), the Berklee Singers Showcase 30th Anniversary Concert (December 5), and Guinga Meets Berklee (December 12).

Thursday, October 10, 8:15 p.m. – Celebrating Blakey: A Jazz Messenger Reunion

Jazz heavyweights Ralph Peterson, Donald Harrison, Brian Lynch, Billy Pierce, Donald Brown, and Reggie Workman pay tribute to the prolific drummer and band leader Art Blakey. Tickets are $20 in advance (discount applied at check out), $25 day of show, reserved seating.

 

Wednesday, November 6, 8:15 p.m. – Alejandro Sanz Meets Berklee

Berklee will present Alejandro Sanz an honorary degree at this special show featuring the Spanish superstar alongside a 40-piece Berklee student ensemble. Sanz’s new album La Música No Se Toca is one of 2013’s best-selling albums and has produced three consecutive No. 1 singles in Spain, Latin America, and the U.S. Sanz has won a total of three Grammy Awards and 16 Latin Grammy Awards, including three Latin Grammy Album of the Year Awards, a distinction no other artist can claim for that category. Tickets are $18 in advance (discount applied at check out), $24 day of show, reserved seating.

 

Thursday, December 5, 8:15 p.m. – Berklee Singers Showcase 30th Anniversary Concert

Singers Showcase, Berklee’s premier vocal event, offers a variety of styles and musical settings for some of the college’s exceptional singers. The outstanding lead singers are chosen from a pool of more than 100 students who audition for a spot in this immensely popular concert. The Singers Showcase has been a career launching pad for artists like Paula Cole, Lalah Hathaway, and Susan Tedeschi. Tickets are $8 in advance (discount applied at check out), $12 day of show, reserved seating.

 

Thusrday, December 12, 8:15 p.m. – Guinga Meets Berklee

Brazilian composer and guitarist Carlos Althier de Souza Lemos Escobar—aka Guinga—is known for incorporating multiple musical styles in his compositions, including choro, samba, baião, foxtrot, blues, jazz, and classical. Guinga’s works have been recorded by such artists as Sérgio Mendes, Paulo César Pinheiro, Elis Regina, Cauby Peixoto, Lela Pinheiro, Turíbio Santos, and others. Tickets are $18 in advance (discount applied at check out), $24 day of show, reserved seating.
