Berklee College of Music
Shaping Our Future: Berklee Vision Statement

Creative Musicianship for a Changing World

Berklee College of Music is recognized as one of the world's finest educational "music cities." It is an international music mosaic that includes players and singers, composers, arrangers, songwriters, engineers and producers, synthesists, teachers and many others, all in a single focused community that provides education for careers in music.

Our vision is to continue to improve the quality and value of a Berklee education for a career in professional music in a period of rapid and major change throughout our industry and society. We have carefully considered the many changes which lie ahead in music, technology, pre-college musical experience, improved means of effective teaching and learning in higher education, financial resources, the diversity of society, and our role as an international leader in music education.

The continued vigor and success of our college's role as the leader in contemporary music education will depend on many factors. Principal ones are for us to:

  • Meet the challenges of the continuing evolution of music by effectively integrating curriculum, teaching, technology, and assessment;
  • Provide for increased student diversity through an inclusive and responsive campus environment;
  • Improve campus life with quality facilities and operations, personalize service, and strengthen human resource development leading to improved productivity and fulfillment;
  • Expand access to contemporary music education through community, national, and international relationships.

As we move forward, we will provide programs that meet the educational and humanistic needs of our communities in an emerging global society. At the same time, we will continue to reaffirm our tradition of access and excellence in advancing careers in music. Through the emphasis on these important themes, we will fulfill our mission and advance our institution into the future.
