April 2, 2009

The 2008-2009 Sovereign Bank Music Series at Berklee comes to a close with a bang. A talented trio—who can claim a Grammy, chart-topping hits, work with some of the industry’s finest, and performances on stages around the world—returns to campus as alumnae of Singers Showcase for the event’s 25th anniversary. Paula Cole '90, Lalah Hathaway '94, and Darcel Wilson join some of the best student vocalists at the college on the Berklee Performance Center stage to celebrate this beloved tradition of highlighting megawatt singing star power. These talented women, and others such as Gillian Welch and Susan Tedeschi, are proof that many of these students will be looking at their future on stage.

The concert takes place Thursday, April 16, at 8:15 p.m. in the Berklee Performance Center, 136 Massachusetts Ave., Boston. Purchase tickets online through Ticketmaster. General admission is $30 ($22.50 for seniors). For more information call 617 747-2261 or visit ticketmaster.com.

The concert will be broadcast live by BIRN2, one of five channels on Berklee's student-run internet radio station.

Approximately 90 to 100 student vocalists audition for the chance to earn a coveted Singers Showcase spot. From that rich talent pool, 10 have been picked to perform in this year’s show: Aryn Calhoun, Orlando Dixon, Leslie Echevarria, Phillip Ferrell, Denise Hudson, Tania Jones, Aubrey Logan, Mario Jose, Jenna O'Gara, and Ashley Rodriguez. Those chosen will put their stamp on the music of Ray Charles, Chaka Khan, Leona Lewis, Esperanza Spalding, and Marvin Winans.
