Professor Bill Banfield Hosts Art Series on Tavis Smiley Show

This liberal arts professor hosts the new music and culture series Essays of Note on the nationally syndicated radio series the Tavis Smiley Show.

Bill Banfield, professor of Africana Studies and founder and director of the Africana Studies/Music and Society program, debuted his new bimonthly feature Essays of Note on the nationally syndicated radio series the Tavis Smiley Show. Smiley says Banfield's series will focus on music history with intersections of art and society, revealing some of our greatest arts movements and artists. In this debut piece, Banfield focuses on black music as a catalyst for artistic and cultural change, and he interviews Kenny Burrell.
