A Network of Talent

More than 50 women students and guest alumnae from around the world participated in Berklee's 10th annual Women Musicians Network concert, held last month at the Berklee Performance Center. Always eclectic, this year's show was more diverse than ever, with 12 acts performing in a range of styles, and many groups fusing influences from several different genres. However, the common thread was originality, demonstrated through both songwriting and musicianship. Several of the artists are featured in photographs below.

Percussionist Kera Washington, guitarist Lexi Havlin, and vocalist Rajdulari Barnes perform "Forward Home" with their group Zili Misik, which mixes Haitian, Brazilian, and West African rhythms with jazz, reggae, neo-soul, and other styles.

 

Harpist Lisa Lim and shakuhachi player Geni Skendo perform Keiko Ueda's arrangement of "Sunayama," a traditional Japanese melody.

 

Jazz pianist Manami Morita leads her trio in a high-intensity performance of her original, "Goodbye at 12 a.m."

Rock band Burn Chesca Burn, led by Chesca Santos, slam through "Sound the Siren."
