Eight Berklee Alumni and Two Faculty Members Won Grammy Awards At the 48th Annual Ceremony - Winners Include Aimee Mann and Alan Silvestri

BOSTON, MA, January 9, 2006 — Berklee alumni and faculty walked away from last night's Grammy Award ceremony with a total of 10 Grammy Awards in varied categories. The winners included Aimee Mann, film scoring giant Alan Silvestri, and Antonio Sanchez of the Pat Metheny Group. Exemplifying the diversity of the music emanating from Berklee, the winners were recognized for their outstanding contributions in categories spanning the genres of pop, jazz, classical music, film scoring, and arranging. With last night's wins, Berklee alumni have now won a total of 146 Grammy Awards.

Aimee Mann '80 picked up her first Grammy Award in the category Best Recording Package, for the album The Forgotten Arm. Alan Silvestri '70 won an award, his second, in the category Best Song Written for Motion Picture, Television, or Other Visual Media, for the song "Believe," performed by Josh Groban in The Polar Express. Also garnering a second award of their career was Antonio Sanchez '97, the drummer in the Pat Metheny Group, who won in the category Best Contemporary Jazz Album, for The Way Up. Berklee professor Danilo Perez '88, a member of the Wayne Shorter Quartet, was awarded in the category Best Jazz Instrumental Album, Individual or Group.

Gil Goldstein '70 won his third award in the category Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist(s), while Berklee Associate Professor Eugene Friesen won his second Grammy in the Best New Age Album category as member of the Paul Winter Consort. Friesen's bandmate Eliot Wadopian '80 also won his second Grammy Award. Andrew Dawson '01 won an award for his work engineering Kanye West's album Late Registration, which won Best Rap Album. Also garnering awards were Mads Tolling '03 and Evan Price '96, members of the Turtle Island String Quartet, which won Best Classical Crossover Album for their collaborative disc with the Ying Quartet.
