Student Goes National With Song Inspired by Soldier

Berklee student Rachel Loy, a 19-year-old bass player and singer/songwriter from Austin, Texas, appeared on NBC's "Today Show" on April 22. Loy performed her song, "The Same Man," which was released nationally that day on Epic Records.

The song is inspired by Loy's friendship with Matthew Brake, a Marine Corps reservist also from Austin who was called for active duty in Iraq. She first performed "The Same Man" on an Austin radio station, sparking a wave of listener interest in the song and its speedy spread to playlists of other radio stations. A Berklee student since September 2001, Loy is a Professional Music major who performs around Boston as a solo artist and as a member of the five-member all-female band, Mass. Ave.
