"Thanks to the partnership between the City of Boston, the Fenway Civic Association, and Berklee College of Music, Mothers Rest will come alive with the sounds of jazz this summer," said Mayor Thomas M. Menino. "I invite residents and visitors of all ages to join us for three great evenings of free music in the Fens."

Now in its fifth year, ParkARTS began as Mayor Menino's initiative to present a yearlong program of arts and culture related programs and events in Boston's park system. Sponsored by Fleet and thanks in part to a grant from John Hancock, ParkARTS will join the Fenway Civic Association and Berklee College of Music to present Swingin' in Mothers Rest this summer.

The Fenway Civic Association, the area's oldest community organization, works with residents, public agencies, and institutions to enhance urban living for residents and visitors. Run entirely by volunteers, it sponsors an annual Rose Garden picnic, Back Bay Fens Bird Walk, and other civic events which highlight the unique natural, cultural and academic riches of the Fenway.

Mothers Rest incorporates Frederick Law Olmsted's vision for the Emerald Necklace and is beautifully nestled on the banks of the Fenway. This area holds all the charm and maintains the beauty of one of the historical areas that makes Boston unique. "This should be the best year yet" said Bill Richardson of the Fenway Civic Association. "With the combined efforts of Berklee College and ParkARTS we're on the way to becoming a major annual jazz event in the city."

J. Curtis Warner Jr., Assistant Vice President, Community and Governmental Affairs, Berklee College of Music, comments, "Each time we work with the Fenway Civic Association they inspire growth in our commitment to this neighborhood. This year's series, the third one, will be the best ever!"
