The MMI provides opportunities for Berklee students through scholarships and financial aid, performance and recording opportunities, and other activities that help students develop into emerging artists in the Mediterranean musical traditions.

Brazilian Night in Israel 2013

MMI Executive Director Matthew Nicholl was the musical director, pianist, and conductor for Brazilian Night, featuring MMI Founder Larry Monroe, Paula Valstein, and an all-star orchestra from the Voice of Music in the Upper Galilee Chamber Music Festival, in Kfar Blum, Israel.  

Flamenco Soul Tour 2012

The Flamenco Soul Project band, formed by four Berklee students with two young flamenco artists, toured the Blue Note Festival circuit, at the B.B. King Blues Club & Grill in New York City, the Baltimore Soundstage in Baltimore, the Arsenal Center For the Arts in Boston, and the Howard Theatre in Washington, D.C. With this project, the goal was to give students professional opportunities as well as to promote new fusions of Mediterranean music styles.

Young Flamenco Concert BPC

Featuring some of the most remarkable Berklee students from all over the world, this concert represented a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to share the stage with flamenco greats, including dancer Belen Lopez, singers Tamara Escudero and Saul Quiros, guitar player Israel Cerreduela, and percussionist Rafael Jimenez ("El Chispas"). Middle Eastern Festival 2012 "Flamenco Today: A Journey Through Andalusia"

The fourth Middle Eastern Music Festival, directed by multifaceted musicians Christiane Karam and Javier Limón, honors and celebrates the beautiful musical traditions of the Mediterranean lands.

Berklee Valencia Campus Inauguration Concert/Mediterraneo Ensemble

Berklee Valencia inaugurated the Mediterranean Music Institute with a concert by the Berklee Mediterráneo Ensemble with performances by Ariadna Castellanos Rivas on piano, Ali Amr on qanun and voice, Kalani Trinidad on flute, Tamir Shmerling on bass, and Sergio Martínez on percussion.
