Curriculum

The MMI provides curriculum in the performance, composition, and study of Mediterranean music and culture at both the Boston and Valencia campuses, including classes, ensembles, workshops, and clinics.  The Institute is currently exploring a minor in Mediterranean music culminating in a semester in Valencia.
 

Middle Eastern Fusion

An advanced performance ensemble geared towards experimenting with different musical styles, traditional and contemporary, from North Africa, the Middle East, the Balkans, and the Mediterranean, including Lebanese, Egyptian, Turkish, Algerian, Bulgarian, and Gypsy traditional styles (e.g. muwashshah, sama'i, kopanitsa). 

Flamenco Vocal Ensemble

An amazing experience that showers vocalists from all over the world with the sweet and sour colors of flamenco singing. Under the direction of renowned producer, singer and guitar player Javier Limón; singers internalize from the simple to the most intricate music figures encountered in flamenco. Flamenco Music: Composition and Arranging

This course examines the concepts and techniques of writing flamenco music, which is a vital and growing genre in contemporary music. The course covers the origins of the various styles of flamenco, their individual influences, primary composers of flamenco, overview of popular lyrics, and common composition and arranging techniques in flamenco styles.

Flamenco Summer Program / Valencia Campus
