Alto saxophonist Alexey Sokolov and his quintet will present an evening of jazz, funk, Latin, pop, and smooth jazz. The program will include Sokolov's own originals and covers of tunes which have inspired him.
A concert of traditional and contemporary music for wind ensemble, presented by the Berklee Symphonic Winds, featuring a world premier by Berklee alumnus Chris Opperman entitled Kagemusha, and the music of Patrick Burns, Jack Stamp, Eric Whitacre, and Frank Ticheli.
The Berklee Flute Choir and the Spring Winds and Piano Ensemble will be directed by professor Wendy Rolfe. Enjoy lively and lyrical originals by Berklee students and faculty, plus timeless classics from the baroque to the romantic.
Topics covered include melodic characteristics, notation, articulation, phrasing, styles, interpretation of syncopated rhythms, rhythmic variations, and improvisation. We will look at several styles including choro, maxixe, samba, partido alto, samba-funk, bossa nova, baião, ijexá, xote, and frevo styles. Live and recorded examples will be played.
