Singer, oud player, and composer Ahmad El Haggar presents a night of contemporary Middle Eastern music. The show will feature musicians from various parts of the Middle East and the U.S. performing arrangements of classic Arabic songs as well as some originals.
Inna Dudukina is a refined jazz vocalist with a special gift for composing and arranging. She treats her songs as internal monologues, and her jazz ensemble has a unique approach to music. The show includes originals as well as innovative and sophisticated arrangements in which well known tunes contain tricky extensions of form and unexpected changes of style and meter, or are juxtaposed with other songs.
The first concert in the sixth season of the Jazz at the Arsenal series features Berklee faculty artists Jan Shapiro and the John Baboian Trio performing a tribute to Ella Fitzgerald and Joe Pass.
Jan Shapiro, professor in Berkee’s Voice Department, has played in some of the best jazz clubs across the U.S. and has performed as the featured vocalist at the Boston Globe Jazz Festival in multiple years. She has also been featured as a guest artist with the Airmen of Note, the official jazz ensemble of the United States Air Force. Shapiro’s most recent recording is Piano Bar After Hours.
The John Baboian Trio is comprised of esteemed Berklee faculty members John Baboian (guitar), John Repucci (bass), and Yoron Israel (drums). Baboian, artistic director for the Jazz at the Arsenal series, has been a Berklee guitar faculty member for more than 30 years and his performance and teaching duties have taken him around the world.
