This is a cappella for today. Vox One combines elements of blues, funk, gospel, and folk into its own brand of “adventurous and distinctive” vocal music (San Francisco Examiner).
Concert selections may include rhythmic Indian music; “Danny Boy” and other traditional repertoire; blues standards and R&B songs like “Respect;” and previews from an upcoming Christmas album.
The group's meticulous arrangements, lush voicings, and reharmonizations—including vocal versions of drums, bass, horns and guitar—give familiar pieces such as “Edelweiss” a new twist.
The group is composed of: Jodi Jenkins-Ainsworth (soprano), Yumiko Matsuoka (alto), Paul Stiller (tenor, vocal drums), Paul Pampinella (baritone), and Tom Baskett (bass).
