Pianist and composer Giorgi Mikadze, originally from Tbilisi in the country of Georgia, is currently a student at Berklee College of Music on a full scholarship. He graduated from the Tbilisi State Conservatory in Georgia.
His concert performances include numerous solo recitals in Tbilisi, including at the Rustaveli National Theatre (2009), with the Art Geni Jazz Trio (2007), at the Kavkaz Jazz Festival (2000), and at the Autumn Festival Tbilisi Concert with the Tbilisi Symphony Orchestra. He also played at the Black Sea Jazz Festival with Roy Hargrove in Batumi, Georgia. Performances in the United States include a concert on the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage as a Betty Carter Jazz Ahead program participant and a concert at the International Festival Institute at Round Top in Texas (2009). Mikadze has played with Mulato Astatke’s group at the Berklee Commencement Concert and has performed, done arrangements, and been student director for the Quincy Jones Tribute Concert with Siedah Garrett and Patti Austin.
Mikadze was a special guest for Jim Caruso’s Show Cast Party at Birdland in New York and played Ravel’s Concerto for piano and orchestra in G major with the Berklee Symphony Orchestra. He has won numerous awards and honors, including those in the Second National Piano Competition of Nodar Gabunia and the Sixth International Vladimir Horowitz Piano Competition (Ukraine), a jazz performance award from Berklee, and grants from the president of Georgia in 2003 and Eteri Andjaparidze in 2007.
