Visiting artist-in-residency Vanessa Rubin will discuss her experiences in musical theater, performance, and jazz. Rubin’s career has included tours with Herbie Hancock, the Woody Herman Orchestra, and the Jazz Crusaders and an acclaimed portrayal of Billie Holiday in Yesterdays: An Evening with Billie Holiday. Voice Department faculty member Rene Pfister, who directs many of Berklee’s musical theater productions, will interview Rubin.
Female composers have made an indelible mark on the Great American Songbook. Berklee students and faculty will showcase great songs from the pen of Aretha Franklin, Dorothy Fields, Bessie Smith, Carole King, and Billie Holiday, just to name a few. Vocalists Donna McElroy, Natalia Sulca, Jennifer Hoyt, Nigel Tay, Gabriela Carrillo, Lisa Thorson, and Tickwanya Jones will present memorable performances of some of the best songs ever written.

Fashion sculptor Courtney Kim Benbernou will deliver a thought-provoking look at the relationship between fashion and the musician. Benbernou is a full-time artist with a B.F.A. in sculpture from Massachusetts College of Art and Design. The program will include an interactive opportunity to develop and craft individual stage looks.
