Hector Morales presents The Afro-Peruvian Percussion Ensemble: From the Cajon to the Drum Set book presentation/concert/workshop.
The concert/workshop will follow the methodology presented in the instructional book and DVD The Afro-Peruvian Percussion Ensemble: From the Cajon to the Drum Set. It will be presented by the book’s author, Peruvian percussionist Hector Morales, who will be accompanied by the Afro-Peruvian Ensemble, the band that recorded the DVD and is composed of Peruvian Grammy-winner Oscar Stagnaro; former “Peru Negro” musicians Mariela Valencia, Marcos Napa, and Hector Ferreira; and special guests Yuri Juarez on guitar and Ali Bello on violin.
This is an amazing opportunity for the students to be introduced to this unique style of Latin music, which is becoming the “new thing” in the Latin jazz world as a fresh alternative to the already established Afro-Cuban and Brazilian styles. Students will also have the opportunity to purchase the instructional book/DVD with a 25 percent discount at the event. This book, which is the first of its kind, will be published by Sher Music Co.
The book contains:
- Music charts with rhythms for the cajon, cajita, quijada, congas, cowbell, bongos, and ensembles (including bass and guitar).
- Adaptation of these rhythms to the drum set.
- DVD with 70 video clips demonstrating the music examples.
- History of the Afro-Peruvian percussion ensemble.
