New York’s WBGO Jazz 88.3 FM and NPRmusic proudly present year three of The Checkout—Live at Berklee, a concert series in which critically acclaimed, New York-based performers return to their Berklee roots and perform for the world from Boston’s Cafe 939. This concert features alto saxophonist and jazz composer Patrick Cornelius along with Gerald Clayton (piano), Jason Palmer (trumpet), John Ellis (saxophone), Miles Okazaki (guitar), Nick Vayenas (trombone), Peter Slavov (bass), and Kendrick Scott (drums). See the action in person as it is streamed live worldwide at 8:00 p.m. EST on NPRmusic.org.
Cornelius has emerged as a dynamic new voice on the New York jazz scene today. AllAboutJazz.com lauded his 2011 release, Maybe Steps, for “reveal(ing) more treasures and pleasures with repeated listening.” In 2011, he was identified in the Players section of DownBeat magazine as a rising young talent on the scene, and the following year he was awarded a new jazz works commission by Chamber Music America and the Doris Duke Foundation. With the recent release of Infinite Blue, his most accomplished work to date, Cornelius shows growth and maturation as both a player and composer.
The show is made possible with support from the Chamber Music America's 2012 New Jazz Works: Commissioning and Ensemble Development program, funded through the generosity of the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation.
In addition to live streaming on NPRmusic.org, you can also hear this concert in New York on WBGO Jazz 88.3 FM or wbgo.org. You can also listen to every show anytime after its airdate at Checkoutjazz.org and NPRmusic.org.
