The Journey Continues features the Winnie Dahlgren Quintet in the first half of the night, with the 18-piece Big Bang Evolutionary Big Band closing the concert.
Denmark native and vibraphonist Winnie Dahlgren '91 has shared the stage with many legendary artists, including Steve Lacy, Christian McBride, and Horacio "El Negro" Hernandez. She surrounds herself with musicians from all over the world and nimbly migrates between genres, with styles ranging from classical and jazz to Latin and world music. Dahlgren has been commissioned to write a variety of jazz works, including compositions for small ensembles, big bands, and percussion groups. She is an associate professor in Berklee's Harmony Department.
The Big Bang Evolutionary Big Band (BBEBB) is a collective of faculty, staff, alumni, and students dedicated to the idea that jazz orchestras can create powerful and forward-looking music. Formed by a few talented members of the Berklee community—musicians who work as composers and instrumentalists—BBEBB provides a forum for the sharing of musical ideas, stimulating the creative process, and fostering new music.
The BBEBB offers open rehearsal sessions and live performances of music written by its resident and guest composers. Through these sessions and performances, composers and players invite audience members to witness the organic evolution and artistic process so critical to creating new music that challenges and inspires.
