The annual Contemporary Writing and Production concert presents an eclectic range of styles and texture. This year, the concert will feature two woodwind, a string, and a rhythm section consisting of some of Berklee's most talented musicians.
After the ensemble was assembled last spring, seven of of the Contemporary Writing and Production faculty members spent the summer and early fall composing the original pieces.
The Red Room presents the New Brew Lunchtime Concert Series. Every Tuesday and Thursday, Berklee students, staff, or faculty help you either slow down or power up for the afternoon. Concerts are free, all-ages, and open to the public. Bring your lunch, snag a coffee, and grab a seat for our New Brew performances-they're good for the soul.
Today's featured artist is Bryan Ouellette, a Berklee student from the rural area of Turner, Maine who plays guitar and writes pop and acoustic music. Ouellette has written over 50 songs since enrolling at Berklee, featuring what the Portland Phoenix called his "breathy tenor."
Faculty member Gail McArthur leads an impressive line-up, playing a program of modern jazz originals with influences from many styles. Gail McArthur (saxophones), Baron Browne from Vital Information (bass), Steve Langone (drums), and Bobby Gallegos (trumpet).
The 23rd annual Pop/Rock Live! showcase highlights the best music written and performed by some of Berklee's most talented student songwriters, arrangers, singers, and instrumentalists. The concert will present a variety of original compositions as well as new arrangements of standard pop/rock and r&b repertoire, directed by Mirek Kocandrle. This year we proudly feature Marlon Saunders.
Saunders, former professor and alumnus of the prestigious Berklee College of Music, appeared as the calypso singer in the popular Disney film Enchanted, singing the Academy Award–nominated song “That’s How You Know” with Amy Adams. He has recorded/toured with artists as diverse as Billy Joel, Sting, Nine Inch Nails, Shania Twain, and Michael Jackson. He has two solo recordings on his independent label, and plans to release a new album in the summer of 2010. Saunders has sung on over 100 radio and television commercials, including spots for Oscar Mayer, Pizza Hut, Bud Lite, Diet Coke, and most recently Pepperidge Farm Goldfish.
The Berklee Writing Division presents VGO: The Video Game Orchestra. As video games attract an ever-increasing audience, the accompanying music is generating a growing audience as well. VGO is the first and only student orchestra to showcase these interactive media compositions.
The CWP Student Concert writers showcase their dynamic songs and arrangements in a sizzling mix of new grooves. The concert features some of the best CWP students. Directed by Andrea Pejrolo, Dave Howard, and Bernardo Hernandez.
Jason Pratt, a contemporary writing and production major, is a longtime admirer of funk, soul, rock, and hip-hop. The Jason Pratt Band is a project where these various styles coexist without overshadowing one another. Deeply influenced by G. Love and Special Sauce, Motown, and the beats of ?uestlove, Pratt has created a solid repertoire of original music that should not be missed in a live setting.
