Bassist Daniel Assis and Lampião Trio will perform Brazilian music ranging from samba and choro to baião. Music by composers such as Pixinguinha, Hermeto Pascoal, and Edu Lobo will be performed. Lampião consists of Hayoung Lyou on piano, Daniel Assis on bass, and Raphael Pannier on drums.
Bassist Flavio Lira and quartet present a concert focused on the Brazilian genre choro, one of the most representative forms of Brazilian instrumental music, with very active melodies, harmonies, and rhythms.
La Noche Lusa, sponsored by the Mediterranean Music Institute, will celebrate and commemorate fado, the traditional urban folk music from Portugal.
Fado is renowned for its expressive, profoundly melancholic character, and for its poetic lyrics. Artists such as Amalia Rodrigues, Carlos do Carmo, and Mariza have been worldwide ambassadors of this music. Javier Limón has produced many fado albums, including one of the latest albums by Mariza.
For this unique concert, Limón has carefully chosen repertoire that travels from traditional fado to Cape Verdean and Brazilian music. Performers will include outstanding Berklee students who will accompany extraordinary fado artists.
