Spanish pianist and composer Ariadna Castellanos is currently one of the top rising flamenco artists. She merges flamenco and jazz in order to create a new language, a unique identity. She blends the new harmonies and modern traditions with the wild passionate essence of flamenco. Based on her technique, acquired with classical piano training, and her natural sense of improvisation, Castallanos’s performances achieve the highest artistic quality.

The Dwells,

The Dwells were born on the Fourth of July. Paige Califano and Matthew Bean were enjoying the night on a hot, crowded Boston rooftop, but soon found themselves one floor below with some old notebooks and a guitar. Their voices blended minutes into hours, and as morning glazed the window, they both left hearing music come to life like they had never heard before. As they dove into new ideas, they slowly crafted their sound and what emerged was a neo-Americana, cosmic folk duo that gave a nod to earlier genre-benders like Gram Parsons and Elliott Smith.

The Yesberger Band,

The Yesberger Band, an East Coast college band founded in early 2010 at Berklee College of Music, is the project of lead singer and pianist Devon Yesberger, backed up by good friends Spencer Stewart (bass) and Gabriel Smith (drums). They are a sensible, groovy, and poetic trio, mixing jazz nuances with catchy original pop. Inspired by the untapped bounty of wisdom hidden amongst the stars and spread throughout daily life, Yesberger writes songs that channel the feelings of laughter and smiles that everyone desires. The resulting performances only strengthen these feelings with a positive energetic stage presence that is unmatched by most young musicians, and is evidence of a strong passion for music, as well as a deep friendship between the performers and audience.

Albino Mbie Project,

DEPARTMENT :

Albino Mbie was born in Maputo, the capital of Mozambique, a country in southern Africa known for its rich musical and cultural heritage. Mbie was one of the first students to receive a full scholarship to Berklee through the African Scholars program. In 2009, he settled in Boston, Massachusetts. His music incorporates his musical experiences from Mozambique, the U.S., and many other places around the world, combining rhythmic patterns and musical concepts to create a unique Moz-jazz sound. He will always continue to combine and capture the energies of different musical traditions to create a unified and original musical style.

Samantha Schultz,

DEPARTMENT :

Samantha Schultz is a singer and songwriter from Edmonton, Alberta who started playing guitar at the age of 11. She began her Berklee studies through the Slaight Family Scholarship in fall 2009. Ink to Paper, her 2011 release, earned her two Edmonton Music Awards (Blues Album of the Year and Female Artist of the Year).

Daniel Rotem Trio,

DEPARTMENT :

Daniel Rotem is an Israeli tenor saxophonist and composer who has been leading a trio since he arrived at Berklee in 2011. During the year the trio has been together, they have recorded with Jazz Revelation Records and performed during the Regattabar Courtyard Series. Rotem has also had the opportunity to work with Phil Wilson, Greg Hopins, Hal Crook, Terri Lyne Carrington, and others since his arrival at Berklee.
