Applying for the Summer Internship Program in London
To be eligible for the Berklee Summer Internship Program in London, students must apply several months before the summer in which they want to participate. The Office of Experiential Learning (OEL) will accept and review applications for the summer 2012 program on a rolling basis, beginning in September 2011. Applications for the summer 2012 London Internship Program are due by 5:00 p.m. on December 2, 2011. Late applications will not be accepted.
The following materials are required to apply (more details on these requirements are in the application materials):
- A completed application
- Current CV
- Transcript
- Two letters of recommendation
- Personal essay
Representatives from the OEL will review application materials and interview all qualified candidates in person. Program acceptance is based on the following criteria:
- How clearly the candidate demonstrates that an internship will enhance their academic and career goals. Also, how well the student demonstrates an ability to serve as a mature representative of the college while abroad.
- Recommendations from professional and personal references, as well as feedback from the student's major chair.
- GPA and overall judicial standing with the college.
Once accepted to the program, the OEL helps students prepare for their summer in London in several ways. The OEL assists with CV, cover letter, and interview preparation. We also work with students to identify various types of internship sites they may be interested in to help with the placement process. Orientation sessions are held in Boston and London to assist students with preparing to go to London and then to help them acclimate to their new surroundings upon arrival.
All non-EU residents are required to have entry clearance for the U.K. prior to the start of the internship. The required visa category currently is the Tier 4 General Student Visa. Students are not eligible to apply for the visa until a few months before the program begins. Due to legal restrictions, Berklee's OEL staff is somewhat limited in the amount of advice we may provide students on applying for a visa. For more information, students are advised to visit the U.K. Border Agency website. We encourage all students to make sure that they have a valid passport upon applying for the Summer Internship Program in London.

"I loved interning abroad! It was great to be immersed in another culture and see the industry in London. You will learn a lot about yourself as a worker and as a musician."
—Hannah Taxman, music business major, interned at Mark Summers Casting
