Introductory Internship: IN-295

Number of Credits: 2

The Introductory Internship provides an opportunity for students to work in a professional setting and gain valuable employment experience and knowledge in their chosen field. This internship is a great way for students to learn more about professional development and build their résumés early in their academic careers. This internship helps prepare students with future internships and employment in their fields of study.

  • All internships will take place in the Boston area and be in a field related to student's course of study. The intern will work five to 10 hours at the internship site each week for 10 to 14 weeks.
  • A one-hour semi-weekly class with interns in IN-295 discusses necessary skills for success in the workplace and allows the interns to share experiences. Internship site placement is limited to situations approved by the Office of Experiential Learning.
  • To be eligible, students must meet certain requirements, including satisfactory completion of 36 credits (fourth-semester standing) by the start of the internship (meaning, they may start the process during their third semester); have a minimum of 2.70 CCumGPA (concentrate GPA) and 2.50 CumGPA (overall GPA); be taking core music courses in sequence; and be enrolled in at least 12 credits in the semester of the internship (the 12 credits may include IN-295). Also required are approval from the OEL, and approval from their international advisor if necessary.
  • IN-295 is open to students in all majors as a general elective course.
  • Note: Equivalent credit for prior experience is not available due to the requirement of a concurrent contract between the internship site and the college.
