Seoul Jazz Academy, Seoul, Korea

The Seoul Jazz Academy is the first institution in Korea to offer systematic, extensive courses in popular/contemporary music education. Founded in 1996, the Seoul Jazz Academy is committed to fostering a positive learning environment for students and to help them embark on solid, well-balanced careers in the music industry.

The curriculum offers 14 major fields of study, including composition and arrangement, recording engineering, guitar, saxophone, bass, drums, voice, music business, computer music, piano and various types of contemporary dance. The faculty consists of more than 50 teachers who are active in their disciplines and devoted to the Academy's 500 students.

At the end of each quarter, the students hold a concert, showcasing new bands and new compositions. A year of study is commemorated with a set of CDs recorded and produced by the students and consisting entirely of student work. Guests from the music industry are invited to the graduation performance to help celebrate and to scout new talent.

Located on Tahak-Ro (University Road), the cultural section in the older part of Seoul, access is easy via bus or subway. The Academy's recently renovated facilty houses two performance halls, 20 practice rooms, three ensemble rooms, two professional level recording studios, two MIDI rooms, one editing room, two dance studios and 12 lecture rooms.
