On an overcast Sunday in late September, Berklee helped brighten the streets of Boston with some New Orleans spice as alumni, students, faculty, staff, and Berklee president Roger Brown all marched through the city to raise awareness of the college's effort to help musicians displaced by Hurricane Katrina. Part of Boston's 375th anniversary parade, Berklee's version of the traditional second line—the Big Easy's spontaneous parade—was led by two New Orleans-based alumni: saxophonist Donald Harrison and trumpeter Christian Scott. With Harrison and Scott at the helm, along with faculty saxophonist Andy McGhee and President Brown, the day brought attention to the New Orleans Visiting Artist Fund, which will provide financial support to musicians and bring them to Berklee as guest teachers and clinicians.
