Summer Program Housing

Summer Program Housing

Berklee offers a number of summer programs, from short two-day sessions to longer programs like the Summer Performance Program. These programs are a great introduction to the Berklee campus, including the residence halls. Many students use the summer programs as an assist to entering Berklee full-time. For information about the programs themselves, please see the Summer Programs page.

Applying for residence hall housing is a separate process from applying for admission to Berklee’s summer programs. On-campus housing space is limited for some of the programs. The minimum age for living on campus during Berklee’s summer programs is fifteen. Students under age eighteen must have parental permission.

The Summer Performance Program

The Summer Performance Program is a five-week session geared predominantly towards high school aged students. It provides the chance to explore music as a career, with an emphasis on performance. Because of the size of the program, we are able to house only fifteen, sixteen, and seventeen year old participants in the Berklee residence halls. Older participants are referred to residence halls at other colleges in the area.

Housing application materials are sent to the parents of fifteen, sixteen, and seventeen year old students after they have been officially accepted to the program. You must be accepted to the program before you can apply for housing.

We begin mailing housing applications in mid-February and continue until the residence halls are fully booked (usually in early April.) If you are accepted to the program before we start mailing applications, you will be sent an application in our first mailing in February. Otherwise, you should expect to receive your housing application within two weeks after you are accepted to the program. Students who live outside the United States are sent application materials by e-mail.

Other Boston Summer Programs

Berklee holds a wide variety of shorter summer programs. In past years they have included such programs as Bass Lines, Brass, Flute, and Saxophone weekends, Vocal Summit, Percussion Festival, Summer Songwriting Workshop, Music for Video Games, Guitar Sessions, and the Mark O’Connor String Festival, among others. Please see the Summer Programs pages for information about the programs being offered this year.

Many students participating in the summer programs stay on campus to be close to classes and activities. During these programs, students live in the same residence hall rooms we use for our full-time students in the fall and spring.

Housing applications are sent to all students accepted to each program until we have sent out as many applications as we can, based on the number of residence hall spaces available for that program. You must be accepted to the program before you can apply for housing. For most (but not all) of the programs we have enough residence hall space to accommodate everyone who wants it.

For the June programs we begin mailing housing applications in mid-March. Mailing for the later summer programs begins in April. Students who live outside the United States are sent application materials by email.

Berklee in Los Angeles

Berklee also offers a weeklong summer program in the Los Angeles area. Housing for that program is handled by the college’s Summer Programs Office, and housing information is included with program application information.
